We took a drive on the wild side today. We planned to see Pikes Peak, but a storm had most of the drive shut down, so we improvised. We headed down to Colorado Springs and took a drive through Garden of the Gods, some amazing red rock formations. Then we drove through "Colorado's most scenic half mile" to Seven Falls, a crazy high waterfall. After an elevator ride through a mountain and a steep walk to the top of the falls, we took a back canyon dirt road to some amazing views and mountain tunnels.
Colorado Springs had a lot of tourist attractions, but we had trouble seeing ourselves living there. However, Castle Rock, about half way between CO Springs and Denver, proved to be quite desirable looking. That, combined with Highlands Ranch and the Cherry Creek area, have given us a lot of options to look at in more depth.
The weather has been pretty warm and dry, though the wind in the higher elevations is very cold! We actually can see the smoke from a foothills wild fire from our hotel room, and we drove through a big dust storm on the freeway caused by the wind and a construction site. The mountains are getting a snow storm today, and we plan on going snowboarding in Breckenridge tomorrow.
Thank you everyone for the anniversary wishes yesterday... We had a very productive day and ended it with a yummy dinner at the Applebees and the top tier of our wedding cake.
